World Literature Paper II

Exposition of the Romantic Mentality     Gustave Flaubert examines the absurdity of a romanticized outlook in his novel Madame Bovary. In order to capture the Romantic mentality, Flaubert describes ideas distant from the characters with heightened idealism, but as he focuses in closer, the subject becomes contorted into a harsh reality. Emma Bovary epitomizes the irrationality of this exaggerated romanticism, with her high expectations of love, life and death.     From the introduction of Emma Bovary, Flaubert investigates the more Romantic aura about her. Four Walls

Four walls Encircle you tightly. They choke you And hold you from everyone else. No one can see in, Bit you can see all. You can see as life goes by Without you. That those you love Continue to live While you are stuck In this limbo. You could fight it: Band and scream And try to escape. But what is the point? You cannot control this. There is no way to change it. Suppose you should just Let it slide.

The Past is Done

The past is done, Gone-- written away. There is nothing to change. In shame, I do not look back. Can we say the same for you? Why do you come now With arms so wide for reception, Offering your advise Consolidations? Do you think that I cannot endure?

A feeling so deep

A feeling so deep So vast and complex. That I cannot describe it. I wish I could tell you Exactly how I feel. I wish I could demonstrate How deep it is in my flesh. How it fills my blood And feeds my soul. Too large for any one word, Even Love.

Virgin Waters

Virgin waters pouring from the sky From God Himself they are sent To cleanse my body and purify my soul. Dripping on my face, down my back Sliding to the ground. Each drop picks up the impurities: soils and oils and evil. I stretch my arms wide and accept the gift from Him. Love fills my heart with each drop Soon my own tears pollute the virgin waters Mixing and mingling. Then I come inside and go to bed. Tomorrow I shall be renewed.

Pains of Love

unjustified passion pulls us together seep into me, swelling and yearning Let us learn the true meaning of closeness and of bonding I say the words, repeating them in a hush:     Our father who art in heaven; The nerves churn in my womb, they expect a visitor to come soon, being most pleasant, most awaited moment. What shall come? occur? who knows? Too shy, or too embarrassed, to ask. Dream and wonder, I become ill with tension I can withdraw and say my true sentiments But how true would that be, Time can only tell, in that moment.

World Literature Paper I

Exploration of Existentialism      Albert Camus and Isabel Allende reveal the negative aspects of Existentialism through the characterization of Meursault in the Stranger and Amanda in the House of the Spirits. By manipulating the physical and emotional vices of each, the authors create two opposing characters who fall victim from the adherence to the philosophical life style. Their eventual ruin alerts the reader to the reality of Existentialism.      One of the original philosophers of Existentialism, Jean-Paul Sartre, wrote that "existence precedes essence," and with these words created

1.5 What grace the boy having been thoroughly poured By the liquid odors in much rose urges you,     Pyrrah, below the pleasing cave?          For whom do you tie back blond hair Simple with elegance? Alas how often he will weep Faithfully and changed Gods     And he unaccustomed will wonder          At harsh waters with black winds Who full of belief in golden you Who always hopes that you are free     And always friendly, not knowing of false gold!          Miserable men, for whom you shine untried. My Best Friend

You were once my best friend Not all too long ago. Tonite I find myself, once again, Looking into your silver eyes Repeating the same fight. Just like old times. You were once my only friend; I could confide in you My deepest, darkest secrets. We were blood-brothers, In it together, till the end. Do you remember the bond? Now we are no longer friends. Weeks and Weeks of neglect Have damaged our steel friendship. Can we ever mend the wounds? Can we ever connect once more? Only strength can tell.
