Exposition of the Romantic Mentality
Gustave Flaubert examines the absurdity of a romanticized outlook in his novel Madame Bovary. In order to capture the Romantic mentality, Flaubert describes ideas distant from the characters with heightened idealism, but as he focuses in closer, the subject becomes contorted into a harsh reality. Emma Bovary epitomizes the irrationality of this exaggerated romanticism, with her high expectations of love, life and death.
From the introduction of Emma Bovary, Flaubert investigates the more Romantic aura about her. His description of her presence exemplifies the aspect of Emma which categorizes as

Exploration of Existentialism
Albert Camus and Isabel Allende reveal the negative aspects of Existentialism through the characterization of Meursault in the Stranger and Amanda in the House of the Spirits. By manipulating the physical and emotional vices of each, the authors create two opposing characters who fall victim from the adherence to the philosophical life style. Their eventual ruin alerts the reader to the reality of Existentialism.
One of the original philosophers of Existentialism, Jean-Paul Sartre, wrote that "existence precedes essence," and with these words created

Theory of Knowledge Essay
6. All knowledge claims should be open to rational criticism. On what grounds and to what extent would you agree with this assertion?
Rational criticism-- the topic seems easy to understand on the surface; however, after much reflection, it is difficult to call criticism such. As I see it, when one refers to something as rational, it means that is it logically sound and reasonable. Yet one cannot simply use only logic when critiquing a knowledge claim, as it only focuses on one aspect of knowing, ignoring perception, emotion, and language. During the analysis, reason will be used; therefore every critique is rational to an extent; never
To what extend, if at all, did Cicero by speaking the Philippics have on the fall of the Roman Republic?
Abstract:
The decaying political scene after the assassination of Julius Cæsar has always sparked debate among Roman history enthusiasts as to who began the inevitable fall of the Roman Republic. Most easily blame either Cæsar or Brutus, while others blame Marcus Antonius. The list of possible scapegoats is nearly endless. However, through analysis of sources published about this time period, a new theory arose which calls for a new investigation. Evidence suggests that Marcus Tullius Cicero may ha
The chirping woke me up this morning earlier than usual. Normally we wait til the sun rises to get to work, but this morning the birds were up before the sun. No other sounds could be heard, except for the careless song, as they chatter away outside the window. I groaned and turned over in the bed. The mass next to me didnt move. It laid there, stiff and motionless, with the chest rising and falling in an uneven rhythm as it breathed. The birds did not wake Rubin.
I closed my eyes for just a brief moment, just a blink, reopening them to a lit room. The yellow beams from the window danced along the bare walls, revealing the cracks and holes f

Time Passes Listlessly
Time passes listlessly
As we wander thru life
Turning corners
And losing ourselves
Take me away
From this world
Of half-repressed urges
Help me move on
Carry on
Raise me up
I love you
I hear the words echo through my mind
Restlessly turning and churning during the nite
Pondering what satisfaction was achieved
And where these morals are deemed worthy.
Sinned have I, but you far deeper.
Such a stain on your soul, forever blacked by guilt,
Yet you continue, unscratched, unscathed
While I tumble into darkness without direction
Repeating and reliving those very moments when
You stole away my life... my happiness
With those words, echoing in my mind.
Flirt with me tonite.
The moon is dark
And the nite young.
The darkness expands
Out from around us,
And all the while
We are alone.
No commentary,
No audience,
No reason for shame.
Just us and infinity.
So, flirt with me tonite.
You cannot deny
This pull between us.
